Frequently Asked Questions
How does TCM approach health problems?
TCM starts with a different question:
“What state is this person’s body in right now?”
Rather than looking only at the disease, TCM looks at the pattern of changes occurring throughout the body.
The same disease can appear in different people with very different bodily states. Therefore, treatment is not necessarily based on the disease name alone, but on identifying the underlying syndrome and correcting it.
Because the body’s response to disease is not always perfectly balanced, a healthy body must continuously do two fundamental things:
respond to disturbances and maintain or restore its normal functions.
A response that is too weak may fail to control a problem.
A response that is too strong or poorly regulated may itself cause tissue damage or persistent inflammation.
Therefore, from this perspective, treatment is not simply about “boosting immunity.” Sometimes the body needs to be strengthened; sometimes an excessive response needs to be moderated; sometimes circulation, nutrition, elimination or regulation needs to be restored.
A central idea of TCM is that the body itself has the capacity to respond to disturbances and restore order. Therefore, treatment may work by changing the body’s internal conditions so that its own regulatory and protective mechanisms can function more effectively. This is one reason TCM treatment can appear indirect: the practitioner may treat a functional imbalance rather than simply attacking the location where the symptom appears.
Key Idea:
TCM does not only ask “What disease does this person have?” It asks “What state is this person’s body in now, what has gone wrong in its regulation, and how can we help the body restore its function?”
Is TCM covered by insurance in Singapore?
It depends on your insurer and your plan. Some policies and company panels include TCM, and some do not. Tell us who you are insured with and we will help you check before your visit.
How do I know which treatment I need?
Depending on the individual’s needs, treatment may include Chinese herbal medicine, acupuncture, topical treatment and other traditional therapeutic methods.
Typical treatment plan include: Understanding the body’s condition → Choosing the appropriate treatment → Adjust according to the body’s response
Are your physicians registered with MOH?
Yes. Our TCM practitioners are registered with the Traditional Chinese Medicine Practitioners Board (TCMPB) under Singapore’s Ministry of Health (MOH). They are required to meet the relevant registration and practice requirements before providing TCM services.
